With limited funds, she ingeniously negotiated use of a bubble-tea stall’s kitchen one day a week for just S$400 a month. Just as her business began gaining momentum, life threw a devastating blow: her mother was diagnosed with cancer—and passed away only a month after Delcie took over the full shop space. The grief drove both her and her fledgling business into steep turmoil. Yet this personal tragedy only deepened her resolve. Delcie emerged from her depression in 2010, renewing her mission: food should heal—not harm.
